在一月十五日中華冰球聯盟鯊魚隊的領隊兼隊長，同時拿下 2006~2007 年球季的 MVP 最有價值球員，並帶領球隊拿下最多分數的出色球員 Matthew “Matt” Stever，Matt 發生了嚴重交通意外，他的傷勢非常的嚴重，在經歷癱瘓腦死如此不堪的事實後，昏迷一個星期的 Matt，終於平靜的離開我們了，中華冰球及其所有成員們帶著深沉的傷痛，祈禱 Matt 在醫院陪伴的的父母能平復喪子之痛，也為 Matt 的女友及遠在加拿大的親人感同身受。

It is with deep sadness that the Chinese Taipei Ice Hockey League and all of its members mourn the loss of a dear friend. Long-standing veteran, Typhooner, Chiayi Sharks team leader and captain, and 2006-2007 league MVP, Matthew Stever left us peacefully after nearly a week in a coma from injuries sustained in a motor accident on January 15th. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to his father, Roger, his mother, Mary, his girlfriend, Leah, and all of his family in Canada.

CIHL 及中華台北冰上曲棍球協會，祈求大家能用實際行動來支持 Matt 及他的家人們，共同出席本週末 2008 年第一屆台北盃的國際冰上曲棍球錦標賽。這個錦標賽將在台北小巨蛋副館冰場，於 1/24(星期四)開始舉行，並於 1/27(星期日)舉行精彩決賽，觀眾請免費入場。 現場將有自由贊助或募款，冰球聯盟並將此競賽所有的友情贊助及原本用來舉辦慶祝會的預算，全數捐贈給 Stever 的家人，以協助他們負擔這筆龐大的醫療費用，並籌募送 Matt 回家的經費，在這裡萬分感謝所有熱愛曲棍球的各界朋友對 Matt 的出錢出力， 他在場上敏捷的英姿帶給我們的美好回憶，將會永遠留在我們的心裡。

The CIHL and the Chinese Taipei Ice Hockey Federation encourages you to offer your support in memory of Matt this coming weekend by attending the first annual 2008 Taipei Cup International Ice Hockey Tournament. The tournament will be held from Thursday, January 24th and will culminate a final on Sunday, January 27th. Entry to the games at the Taipei Arena are free, donations are being accepted.

All proceeds generated from this celebration of sport and friendship will be donated to the Stever family to help offset the medical and travel expenses they have shouldered. Your generosity through donations and support of the event is greatly appreciated and will benefit a very good cause.
