Well, it's two in a row for The Typhoon as we took Mongolia by storm. After coasting to the finals on the backs of 7-1(BJ), 22-0, (MU18) and 6-1(MNT) victories, we met BeiJing in a tight contest on what turned out to be the coldest afternoon yet (-30C). With BeiJing jumping out in front with 2 quick snipes from their most talented player, The Foon knew they had to bear down and skate harder than they had all tourney. Just before the first buzzer, Dave "The Animal" Campbell found mesh with his moneymaker, bringing us within one.
The second period would have been all Typhoon as the boys kept the puck entirely in BeiJing territory, allowing only one shot on The Frozen Toe but The BJ goalie stood on his head time and again. Even a few gaping maws of mesh were left untugged as the rubber was in the hands of Alex "Smoke Dog" Whalen who can win a face off from anyone and carry the puck deep into enemy territory against the most stalwart of defenses, but just can't finish. Ah well.....
With about 2 and a half miles left, Zack "Vinnie" Garafolo cut into the slot and found home with a bb of a shot short side.
Overtime didn't last long when Brandon "The Phantom" Marleau, fresh off a bout of the 26 ounce flu, materialized at the side of the net unchecked (you can't check what you can't see)and took a beautiful feed from Jeremy "Deadbolt" Newton that not only pulled the BJ goalie out of the play but left The Phantom with nothing but mesh in front of him. till, it took him a few whacks, but he eventually put it home and the celebrations began.
Boys, it was cold, the ice was brittle, the locale as remote as one could possibly get, but to a man, we all had a great time. Mongolia Rocks but "Chairman" Mal Turner, Jeremy "The Mongolian Idol" Campbell, Dave "The Animal" Campbell, Ryan "Dangle" Lang, Zach "Vinnie" Garafolo, Alex "Fiddy Cent" Whalen, Jeremy "Deadbolt" Newton, Andrew "The Enforcer" La Rose, Jean Pierre "Tupperware" Grimard, Brandon "The Phantom" Marleau and John "I'm just trying to get a tan" Wilmot rock harder. Thanks guys, for the memory of a lifetime.
