Game 45 Wolves vs Mustangs Mustangs Trot To Easy Win Getting a much needed two points on the night, the Kaohshiung Mustangs beat the Taipei Wolves handily to a tally of 5-1, as the Wolves faced trouble staying out of the penalty box. Game 46 Lions vs Raptors Raptors Get Shoot-Out Victory Save the best for last and the Raptors and Lions surely did so, treating fans to a match-up of Olympic proportions. In the end it was the Raptors on the solid goal tending of Leo Liao and a shoot out winner by Andy Shen that won the day in this one.
Game 43 Sharks vs Mustangs Sharks Edge Mustangs 5-3 The Jiayi Sharks continued their point streak atop the leader board with a 5-3 win over the Kaohshiung Mustangs on Saturday night. The win puts them firmly in first with five games left in their regular season. First on the board was Kevin Yu for the Sharks, wasting no time to bury a pass from line mate Steve Clark. Ian Byrka made it two nothing with assists from Charlie Yang and Brodie Hamilton just about half way through. The Mustangs would be held scoreless until the eight minute mark in the second when Phil Tamblyn batted one home off a rebound at the side of the net. The Sharks bounced back and responded with two goals in two minutes, the first by Kevin Yu and the next by KC Chou. The Stangs looked set to face further obstacles, running into penalty trouble in the third. But Jacky Lu took advantage of two opportunities to put the Mustangs back in it with a little over seven minutes to go. But the Sharks held true as Steve Clark got the empty netter with just three seconds remaining. Three Stars: 1. Kevin Yu 2. Jacky Lu 3. Steve Clark Game 44 Sharks vs Tigers Tigers Gain Ground With Win Over Sharks The Taipei Tigers put together a solid effort on both offense and defense to stymie the first place Sharks and notch a 5-3 win. Scoreless through the first, the Tigers exploded in the second with three unanswered goals. First up was Hank Tseng who blasted a bullet from the outside of the circle to beat goaltender Stewart Glen. Next was Hubert Lee off a saucer pass by Tseng. Finally Anderson Cheng got one after taking a long feed from defenseman Mark Paas and carrying the puck in for the goal. The Tigers went even further ahead, as Robin Ripley got the fourth for them about midway through the third. But a late game rally led by captain, Steve Clark would almost put the Sharks back in it. Clark got their first with about ten to go on a blast from the blue line. He then converted to feed Kevin Yu jut minutes later to bring the gap to within two. Yu looked set to bring it within one when award a penalty shot for being hooked on a breakaway. A brilliant fake and a solid backhand were all for naught though, as the puck bounced squarely off the crossbar. Clark would right that wrong with a solo effort with three minutes to go. But the scrambling Tigers fought off the threat, adding an empty netter with fifty seconds to go for the win. Three Stars: 1. Hank Tseng 2. Steve Clark 3. The Mustangs jumped ahead early on back to back power play goals in the first. Jon Milette made it one zero and was followed up by newly traded Yen Chih Chen just two minutes later. Jimmy Cho replied for the Wolves, but the door would be shut there as John Osmar limited them to just the one for the remainder of the game. The Stangs added two in the second on efforts by Peter Wu and Luke Weir. Jacky Lu added another in the dying minutes of the third, putting a last nail in the coffin and sealing the deal for the men from Kaohshiung. Three Stars: 1. John Osmar 2. Jacky Lu 3. In the end it was the Raptors on the solid goal tending of Leo Liao and a shoot out winner by Andy Shen that won the day in this one. The first period saw only one shot hit the money, as captain, Bob Macleod led the way for his Raptors. The Lions evened it up on a text book Duncan Cameron effort, with Cameron at his post by the Raptors’ net ready to jump on the rebound from line mate Tsai Bo. The third saw the Raptors go ahead, this time on a rebound plugged in by Mike Fox, but the Lions showed heart and evened it up on a goal by newly traded Jesse Morris, proving his mettle for the men in purple. On to penalty shots, where it would take five rounds before Andy Shen notched one for the Raptors and Leo Liao shut the door on Tommy Sullivan for the second time and held perfect in the shoot out.
