Game 47 Wolves vs Lions
Wolves Tame Lions 6-3
The Wolves took charge early and broke out to a three zero lead in the first that would gain them almost all the ground they needed to cruise to the win.
First period goals came from Ryan Lang, Dennis Chou and Alex Whalen as the Wolves dominated the play and bombarded Lions tender Marshall Ting.
The Lions replied netting the first of the second period on a power play as Jesse Morris redirected a shot by Adrian Nolin to beat Wolves’ tender, Andrew Tingley. Andrew Lunman struck back for the Wolves just minutes later, as the Lions dealt with some penalty killing woes of their own. Henry Chen made it five for the Wolves two minutes later, converting a shot by Dennis Chou for the goal. Tommy Sullivan would get a second for the Lions, this time with the Wolves on the kill for a tripping minor, but with the tally at five two, this one looked to be out of reach.
Leave it to the Lions, kings of the third period push, to try to prove us wrong. Though they only managed one goal on the period, (Tommy Sullivan with a bullet snapshot top corner), they missed doubling their shot total for the game by one and subjected tender Tingley to an onslaught of rubber. Despite all the chances, the puck never found the mesh, forcing the Lions to pull their goalie in a last ditch effort to make up some ground. Henry Chen got his second of the night on the empty netter and sealed the victory, their second in two weeks, for the Wolves.
Three Stars:
- Henry Chen
- Tommy Sullivan
- Andrew Tingley
Game 48 Swordfish vs Typhoon Wave
Typhoon Wave Edge Swordfish 6-4
The team that everyone was counting out at the start of the season surprised everyone by opening the scoring in this middle game match up on Sunday night.
The Swordfish came out of the gates strong on a goal by Clayton to make the score one nothing. The Wave would not sit idle, however, responding with two in less than a minute by Bin Fan and Jerry Yang. Clayton hit the money again for the Swordfish, evening it all up at two, but the Wave would get a third from forward Ming Lai before the buzzer closed out an exciting first.
Only one in the second, as Clayton got his third on the night and evened it all up, but the Wave showed great depth and dominated in the third, getting three more goals to the Swordfish’s one. Ming Lai and Bin Fan both had their second of the night and Collin Hsiao added one. For the Swordfish it was number 33, Min getting the goal, but the rest of the squad had already given all they could and succumbed to the loss.
Three Stars:
- Bin Fan
- Ming Lai
- Clayton
Game 49 Rhinos vs Dragons
Dragons Hang On To Beat Rhinos
The Rhinos opened the scoring in this matchup of the Club Division titans, on a power play goal by Brandon Dubreuil at the twelve minute mark. The Dragons would come back late in the period when Infinity Chang jumped on a rebound shot by Julian Albrecht, but the Rhinos would head towards intermission with the lead, as Bryan Beamish notched one with a shot from the circle.
Penalties would prove costly, as a call for body contact in the second and a third period bench minor for too many men on the ice would prove the undoing for the red, white and blue. The first goal came at nine forty-two of the second when Kenny Zhao scored for the Dragons, the second and game winner by Paul Bray at five twenty-two in the third. The biggest news on the night for the Dragons was that Julian Albrecht had a hand and a helper on each of the three his team put in tonight. Well done, Dragons!
Three Stars:
- Julian Albrecht
- Kenny Zhao
- Infinity Chang
