Game 47:Sharks vs Lions-Battle for 3 rd Place

Sunday night May 6 th was a date that Shark’s Captain Kevin “Caruso” Kennedy had long marked on his calendar. For this night would be his last attempt at defeating his Southern neighbors the Mighty Lions of Taichung. Added to this game’s drama was the presence of last year’s Sharks leader Mark Paas who defected to the Lions, as well as Kevin Mac Daddy Macleod, the infamous player traded by Kennedy for…nothing (!) at the beginning of the season.

The start of the game did not look good for the Sharks as they were missing surprising scoring sensation Ronan “Lazy Lover” Wilson. Who has now been lured by scantily clad screaming Taiwanese women to play his guitar at a moment’s notice . Adieu Mr. Wilson and good luck.

The Shark attack came out strong on a goal by Christina Robison assisted by Matt “Bitter Beer Face” Stever. In an uneventful first period highlighted by the musical samplings of DJ Condor and dance moves by Steve “Twinkle Toes” Clark, the period ended in a 1-0 lead for the Sharks. Despite getting two beauty give a ways that sent him in all alone, Matt “Cement Mitts” Stever came away empty on great saves by the Beautiful Lake.

In the second stanza the Sharks took an early penalty by Kevin Lu that lead to a quick tally by Robin Ripley, assisted by Paas. The game got a little ugly as new referee Timmy Poon Tang seemed a little intimidated by the white man and put his whistle away. This was compounded by the fact that Steve Clark was busy looking at himself in the plexi-glass all night and also forgot to blow his whistle.

The Lions refocused in the third and got the equalizer early on a goal by the C.I.H.L’s sexiest player ( in an on line vote ) , Roman MacNamara, assisted by JR. Reid. The Sharks were not so easily going to squander their chance at 3 rd place and went up again on a goal by Alex Peng , assisted by Christina.

After a time out and life lesson from Paas, the Lions pulled their goalie just as Lumber was spotted pulling something else in the crowd. All this confusion allowed the diminutive JR.Reid to bang in the tying goal and send this to a shoot-out.

First up was Ripley who rattled one of the crossbar and into the glass. This followed by Sharks Steve Mossing shooting about 34 feet wide on his attempt.

Next up was Paas, who faded left and waited for Garth Brooks to flop, then Paas went top fromage and the crowd oooed and ahhhhed.

Cement Mitts Matty was up for the task though, as he set a new CIHL record for most stick handling noise and finally tucked it past Beaulac to knot the shoot-out at 1-1 and raise his break-away to goals ratio to 2/84.

After a few more misses, JR. “Show Time” Reid ended the misery on a great shot to put the Lions ahead. All that was left was for Beaulac to once again shut the door, and The Lions took away the win.
